About Us
Our Purpose
Stone Table Study Group is a faith-based, quality educational resource for home-educating families. We are an unaccredited, non-profit organization existing to supplement home education by providing instruction, accountability, and academic community from the foundation of a Biblical worldview.
We had fun naming our group. The name, Stone Table, comes from a chapter in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis. When Aslan sacrifices his life for Edmund on the stone table we are reminded of Christ’s love, which motivates us to invest in education.
Core Values
Biblical Principles - STSG begins with the foundation of a biblical worldview. We want to glorify Christ in all we do, and we want to share it with you! We welcome all families regardless of religious preference. We ask that families acknowledge and respect our Statement of Faith and Core Values.
Home Education Support - We support parents as the primary educators. STSG is a resource for parents along their journey of home education in the state of Missouri (or KS). According to MO law RSMo. 167.031, parents have the responsibility to oversee their student’s progress, engage with their children in “reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies and science or academic courses that are related to the aforementioned subject area” (RSMo 167.031 2 b.), keep hours and records for their children, and meet all state requirements. We come alongside parents as a support resource by providing structured learning, consistency, and accountability. Please see the MO Homeschool Law for details on keeping hours, grades, and transcripts.
Quality Instruction - STSG instructors make a commitment to come prepared and work hard. We want to inspire and challenge young people to be clear communicators, strong leaders, and faithful servants in their community. A variety of curriculum is used in classes: classic and modern literature, textbooks from Christian and secular publishers, online resources, classroom games, Socratic discussion, YouTube videos, movies, and guest speakers from the community. Students follow up at home throughout the week with assigned lessons.
We Are Not
We are not a school- Stone Table Study Group is an unaccredited academic educational group and not considered a private school. Some of our instructors choose to keep grades and share progress reports as a courtesy for parents. However, homeschool parents must assume the responsibility to keep all records (and transcripts of their high schoolers).
We are not a one-size-fits-all program to fill all your homeschool needs. While some of our students take a full day of classes for both Classical Co-op and Secondary, our classes are organic in nature and change year to year depending on available instructors and their specialty. Students may need to complete other subjects in the home or through other outside classes. Please see the MO Homeschool Law for details. Although some teachers do keep grades, we do not keep transcripts, hours, or administrative records on your student. Please see the MO Homeschool Law for details on keeping hours, grades, and transcripts.
We are not a 504 or IEP provider- We would love to be able to meet every need of every unique student, but unfortunately we are not equipped for all types of special need circumstances. The homeschool parent is responsible for learning modifications.
We are not a solution for academic or behavior remediation- We can accommodate the student who is willing to learn and participate.
We are not a social club- While we do value and encourage friendships, Stone Table's main purpose is to be an academic resource for the homeschool community and meet the educational needs of students. Students are expected to participate in class and follow through with any assigned work.
We are not perfect- We have a limited amount of time to spend with students each week. We thank you for your grace and patience if an issue needs sorted out. Stone Table has been blessed with fantastic families!
