Homeschooling during the teen years doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

We are here to help and encourage!

What is STSG Secondary Academy?

Secondary classes meet weekly on Mondays from August to May. We offer a variety of core and elective class options. After a student attends a weekly class, they follow up at home under the oversight of their homeschool parent. For class communication, assignment posting, and gradebook, we use Google Classroom.

Grades and Assessment: Many of the Secondary teachers record grades in their Google Classroom gradebook. If a teacher keeps grades, the student may check them at any time by clicking on View Your Work on the classroom page. Point grades are given at the discretion of the teacher; each teacher uses his or her own grade scale and method. Although grades do not provide a formal assessment of progress, they can help give homeschool parents an overall summary of a student's progress in a class and a record of work being turned in.

The homeschool parent is responsible for determining what to do with the grade for a class. We are to follow the Missouri Homeschool Law. Many parents like to use the Missouri Department of Secondary Education requirements for graduation. While the MO DESE requirements are indeed helpful to keep parents and students accountable and on track, Missouri homeschoolers are not bound to these requirements. Parents should understand the Missouri Homeschool laws when mapping out their student's high school course pathway. The homeschool parent must ultimately decide how to record hours and progress for courses taken through Stone Table Study Group.

Class Placement and Schedule:  Our classes usually contain a mix of grade levels since homeschoolers can be unique in their grade placement. We generally label classes with a target grade range based on the majority. Please choose classes carefully by researching curriculum and taking into account what is best for your student. If necessary, reach out to the teacher for more information.

Because our classes change from year to year depending on teacher availability and their specialty, our schedule may not guarantee the the perfect arrangement for all students. We try to offer all core subjects and create a logical flow for the majority, but we cannot guarantee our class schedule will meet the needs of each student for every subject. Please keep in mind, we are a resource to supplement your homeschool rather than a full day program. While some students do enroll for a full day, the majority of Secondary students mix STSG with other classes at home, online, in other co-ops, and through MCC or vocational programs.

Socialization: Our classes are a joyful hubbub of activity and interaction as students engage in learning. Through group activities, lunch breaks, and field trips, many lasting friendships have grown out of our community. However, our primary reason to gather is academic.

Enrollment in a Secondary class will require a commitment outside of class for homework. Do not enroll unless you and your student are willing to keep this commitment. Some families choose to utilize Secondary classes for core subjects while others do core work at home and rely on STSG for electives.

We encourage Secondary students to engage in activities outside of STSG throughout the week such as church fellowship, ministry, sports, robotics, music, dance, part-time jobs, other local classes, online classes, and time with family and friends.

Drop-off

Secondary students may be dropped off, when parents are not currently needed for volunteer work or supporting their students. All participants are required to follow the STSG code of conduct and rules of the church facility. In some cases, if a student requires extra supervision, at our discretion, we would ask the parent to attend with the student. We reserve the right to withdraw a student from a class or the program at any time.

Parents of non-drivers should arrive at least 10 minutes before their student's last class to pick up. Driving students should stay at the church between classes. STSG cannot be held responsible for driving students.

Study Hall must be chosen to fill free periods longer than 20 minutes (excluding lunch) with a limit of two study hall periods per year. The exception would be a student whose parent is on site and plans to supervise their student during the free period (some parents like to utilize those off hours to work on other homeschool subjects together- we welcome parents on site). Ultimately, we can't have "loose" students hanging around. Each should be enrolled in a class for each time block while they are on our campus.

Volunteer Requirements

Both parents and students are expected to help on class days. We cannot run the program without help! Each Secondary family is required to help during the school year.

Duties include: door monitor, set-up crew, take-down crew, opening crew, closing crew, security, lunch duty, and special events.  Some of these jobs include moving tables, chairs, and cleaning: vacuuming, wiping tables, taking out trash, placing items in the lost and found, etc.

Parents are never expected to substitute teach classes as part of the volunteer requirement.

We can make special arrangements for those unable to volunteer, but those are made on a case by case basis. Volunteer schedules are organized in July after enrollment ends on June 30.

Responsible students may cover volunteer duties for their parents.

Parties!

A few times per year: Fall, Christmas, Valentines, Senior Day, Last Day - we enjoy lunch parties with fun food and activities. We also have fun doing a few themed class days such as crazy hair, duct tape day, 80s day, and more.

Is STSG right for your family?

Check out our About Us page and our Statement of Faith. We hope to encourage parents in their homeschool journey. Tackling upper level courses can be time consuming and challenging. We will help you fulfill those credits while providing accountability and an engaging learning community.

Costs:

Registration Fees

The registration fee per student is $75 and payable to Stone Table Study Group. A discount of 10% applies to 3 or more registrations from the same family at the same time, with the provided coupon code.

This fee is separate from your class enrollment and covers facility, insurance, and group supplies. Payment is due at the time of registration through our external payment site. We cannot accept late registration fees. Registration fees are non-refundable.

Supply Fees

If a class lists a separate supply fee, that supply fee is due at registration and must be paid through our external registration site. Not all classes require a separate supply fee. Check the class listing; a separate supply fee (if applicable) will be listed at the top near class fee.

Class Fees

The cost per class is listed on each class page and paid directly to the individual teacher in full at our Meet & Greet event, or by installments starting in August. Many teachers offer payment plans. Stone Table does not collect or distribute class fees.
